What Clients Say
It has been a pleasure working with RSM Design on the Highlander Union Building – UCR’s student commons. As we rapidly reach the installation of the signage and wayfinding program for our new building, RSM Design has been instrumental in the seamless coordination efforts with the entire team. From management of the sign fabrication process to their systematic method of gaining approvals through the university system, RSM Design has a thorough knowledge of what it takes to get a project completed.
…The Port of San Diego hired RSM Design to develop a comprehensive, branded baywide signage plan for all port signage along 34 miles of port tidelands around San Diego Bay. And they delivered.
RSM was responsive, diligent and easy to work with. Their creative designs for the signage fit perfectly with the port’s branding efforts and incorporated input from several internal stakeholders. There is a detailed plan in place for how signs should look so there is consistency, as well as where signs should be placed to make the biggest impact…
RSM Design, in a body of richly conceived and executed projects across the globe, is a rare collective of designers who look deeply at place, not as a tabula rasa, but as a palimpsest for the cues to connect people to place and to connect people to each other. RSM creates spaces that are finely tuned and are well crafted, and they make a statement with their designs; one that captures the spirit of place, is a wow experience and most importantly has a feeling of optimism.

Environmental Graphics
Environmental graphic design (EGD) is where art meets architecture and ordinary places become extraordinary. In Los Angeles and around the world, we are committed to creating spaces that are not only visually arresting and immersive but also resonate with residents and visitors. At RSM, we accomplish this by understanding the community’s needs and bringing local cultures and history into the built environment. From public art and murals to wayfinding signage and branding, our comprehensive environmental graphic design brings the story of a place to life. The process involves working closely with architects, landscape designers, and urban planners to realize our designs under a single vision.
Placemaking
Whether working on a project in Los Angeles or anywhere else across the country, we design built environments that improve the quality of life and well-being of people who use them. Interviews, research, and community involvement all help us to discover the unique character of a place, ensuring it meets the needs of those who use it. RSM Design combines the practices of urban planning, landscape architecture, public art, and other forms of placemaking to create vibrant, memorable, and deeply resonant environments. Our work ranges from transforming forgotten urban spaces into vibrant centers of activity to updating waterfronts to promote social interaction. Across projects, we connect people with their environment through meaningful experiences.
Markets
Hospitality Design
From our design studio in Los Angeles, we bring places around the world to life. RSM Design creates immersive experiences in the hospitality sector that connect users with a strong sense of place through branding, environmental graphic design, wayfinding, and placemaking. These strategies, when unified through a single vision, provide hotel and resort guests with a fun, convenient, and memorable stay. We pay close attention to every color, material, and finish to produce cohesive, attractive aesthetics while also supporting seamless wayfinding. From luxurious coastal resorts to chic urban hotels, we design built environments that engage guests and leave a lasting impression.
Healthcare Design
Visitors can easily become lost, confused, and frustrated when attempting to navigate the many departments, wings, and floors of healthcare facilities. Our design services for hospitals and other healthcare centers make this experience easier. As one of the leading hospitality design firms in Los Angeles, we create clear, intuitive signage systems that help patients and visitors navigate seamlessly, decreasing their anxiety while providing comfort and security during a potentially sensitive time. From entrance monument signs to interior directional signage, our wayfinding solutions provide better overall patient experiences and increased operational efficiency as healthcare staff can focus on their core duties rather than assisting visitors with navigation. Not only that, but our environmental graphic design adds delightful touches like murals, sculptures, and biophilic elements to make a medical visit more pleasant.
Retail Design
Retail environments are dynamic and changing. We are no stranger to these developments in a major city like LA. With cohesive environmental graphic design that incorporates clear wayfinding and a mix of traditional and digital elements, these shopping centers and lifestyle complexes can evolve to stay relevant, engaging, and memorable. RSM Design enhances the user journey from arrival to departure, drawing and keeping customers in retail spaces ranging from busy malls to upscale boutiques. We create the cohesive branding, strategic wayfinding, compelling visuals, and retail sign design Los Angeles needs to elevate the retail experience.
Transit Design
In an ever-expanding global landscape, efficient and enjoyable transit systems are crucial to the movement of millions of people. RSM Design understands that transit is about more than just transportation—it's about creating connections between people, places, and experiences. With our expertise in master signage programs, wayfinding systems, branding and logo design, analysis and strategy, digital integration, and environmental graphic design, we create intuitive transit environments that guide users effortlessly while providing a sense of identity, purpose, and delight. Whether working on rail systems in Los Angeles or airports around the world, our approach balances functionality with beauty, culture, and meaning to improve user experience while elevating the built environment.
Mixed-Use Design
Mixed-use projects require functionality and style in equal measure. Our design firm in Los Angeles excels at creating branded environments and wayfinding systems that answer a variety of needs within one complex. Informed by in-depth knowledge of the surrounding community and ongoing stakeholder engagement, RSM Design creates urban villages where users can comfortably work, play, and live. Our designs incorporate master sign programs, environmental graphics, and placemaking elements that produce a sense of community and security, bringing mixed-use spaces to life as flourishing, multipurpose destinations.
Residential Design
Creating meaningful experiences is at the heart of our design philosophy, and what is more meaningful than having a sense of home? We design wayfinding systems and environmental graphics for residential communities, ensuring inhabitants and visitors alike experience consistency and comfort within the built environment. To create an atmosphere that feels cohesive and welcoming, we use carefully designed branding, identity signage, neighborhood monumentation, street signs, park and trail signage, and more. Attention to detail and high-quality design are the foundation for enhancing residents’ experiences, building long-term relationships and trust.
Park Design
Our ingenuity in wayfinding, master sign programs, public art and murals, and environmental graphic design serves to benefit the parks and outdoor spaces in our home of Los Angeles and beyond. We work with cities, communities, and developers to institute signage systems that are clear and legible, while also deriving a sense of place from the local environment. In addition to facilitating ease of navigation for users, our work can educate and entertain them with stories of the local community and environment. Bringing this cultural context to a place adds local character and relevance so it resonates authentically with users. By strategically placing and layering environmental graphics, we make parks more functional and enjoyable, giving all visitors opportunities to engage and find meaning.
Civic Design
Our civic design services bring clarity, beauty, and unity to public spaces, enhancing navigation by vehicle and on foot. We can develop master signage programs and wayfinding systems that reflect the one-of-a-kind amenities in a community. To ensure our civic design resonates with local users and meets their needs, we collaborate with city councils, officials, and public outreach committees. This approach blends insight into the user journey with our Los Angeles design firm’s placemaking strategies to ensure civic spaces are accessible, functional, and meaningful. Together, we design built environments that provide a strong sense of place and pride in the local community.
Public Markets & Restaurants
Turn dining experiences into vibrant and engaging destinations with our environmental graphic design services. The rich, diverse culinary landscape of the city inspires our Los Angeles design studio for projects inside and outside of LA. We create unique signage, graphics, and branded environments that elevate the communal dining atmosphere of food halls, public markets, restaurants, cafés, and more. In communal spaces such as these, we strike a balance between the individual tenant identities and overall brand experience. The combination of these tenants’ culinary offerings with the community culture of the space allows for a range of dining experiences, all of them memorable. The built environments we design for food and beverage projects are visually rich and varied, encouraging users to explore and have fun.
The Los Angeles studio creates intuitive, visually compelling solutions that enhance navigation and brand identity for diverse environments. We merge innovative design with strategic planning to ensure seamless experiences across public, commercial, and cultural spaces.
